There are many useful browser add-ons out there, some specifically for SEO. We have put together a list of some great and useful SEO add-ons that might be useful to you.

SEO Book – SEO Toolbar

What it offers: This toolbar essentially gives you an overview of the authority of any website when on the page. It displays Page Rank, approximate number of domain and page links, whether the site has a link in some well know directories such as Dmoz, the age of the site and estimated traffic numbers. It gives a helpful overview at a glance, providing you with understanding of how authoritative a site is. Clicking an ‘info’ button opens up more details and the ability to export the information.

Good for: Competitor research and spotting opportunities for your own sites.

SEO Moz – Moz Bar

What it offers: You can see an overview of various SEO metrics including Page Authority, Moz Rank and how many links the site has. Clicking the SEOMoz button show more details including page title, header tags and more.

Good for: Competitor analysis and analysing your own websites.

SEO Quake

What it offers: Similar to the SEO Moz toolbar, SEO Quake enables you to view various parameters within the Google search results. This includes Page Rank, Number of indexed pages, whether the site has links in various popular directories, checking Robots.txt plus more. You also have the option if you are feeling creative to write your own parameters to measure with SEO Quake.

Good for: Measuring various parameters easily and creating your own parameters for a customised approach.

Foxy SEO

Good for: Quick access too many metrics that can help analyse a website or page. The Spider Simulator is especially useful, to understand how a search engine views your web pages is useful for optimising your pages for the better.

Check my Links

What it offers: Check my links analyses all the links on a page and highlights any broken links, broken links are highlighted in red.

Good for: A quick and visual way of spotting broken links on a page. Broken links can then be fixed quickly. One link building strategy is to find broken links on third party websites and suggesting a similar resources created by yourself. Sometimes the site author will accept your suggestion which creates a good link back to your website. This tool can be used when practising this method.

Google Analytics Add on

What it offers: This add-on checks if Google Analytics is installed on any given page.

Good for: Making sure you haven’t missed installing the Google Analytics code on any page. Very useful for checking on small and medium sized websites.

YSlow

What it offers: YSlow analyses web pages and suggests ways to improve the performance/speed of that page.

Web Developer Toolbar

What if offers: With the Web Developer Toolbar, you can view lots of information related to the web page you are on. You can view CSS and disable styles on a page, disable JavaScript, disable images, view image attributes, validate code and lots more. It is helpful for finding this information quickly and easily.

Good for: Finding site information easily, spotting issues and determining areas for improvement.

Firebug

What it offers: Firebug enables you to inspect the HTML and CSS code of any web page. You are able to select elements on a page to highlight the code that generates that element. A great feature is the ability to modify the layout and style of a page in real-time. Useful for playing around with layouts, colours etc.

Good for: Seeing how specific elements are put together and playing around with the layout.
