CDH Awareness Day is taking place around the UK today (28th June 2013). Read on to find out more about CDH and what you can do to help.
For those of you that are unfamiliar with CDH, it is the abbreviated name for ‘Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia’.
In medical terms:
A CDH is a hole in the diaphragm that allows organs from the abdomen to move into the chest.
Approximately 1:2500 babies are diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). Most people have never even heard of it.
CDH is an often fatal birth defect that can happen to any baby, for no known reason and there is no prevention. Approximately 50% of babies diagnosed with CDH will die. Babies that survive are often left with long term medical problems.
At Koozai, we all love cake so the easiest way for us to help this charity raise some extra cash and awareness was to hold a ‘Bake 4 Babies’ cake sale in the office.
Some of us spent the night baking lots of cakes and dying them pink (where possible) before bringing them into the office today to sell.
Check out some of the photos of these yummy cakes!
All cakes are for sale for £0.50p with the ‘50’ representing the current CDH survival rate of 50%. We have even got some of the other local businesses involved and we will be walking around the local area a little later in the day selling cakes and raising awareness of CDH within the community.
Most people reading this post will not be located near to our Southampton head office so unfortunately, we won’t be able to sell you any cakes. However, if you do want to get involved and support such a fantastic cause there is a lot that you can do.
Donations are vital to keep the charity running and to fund important research. It doesn’t matter what size donation you can make, everything helps CDH to support the cause.
You can make a donation very easily by credit or debit card by clicking on this link.
If you would like to hold a fundraising event similar to what we have done at Koozai, CDH will support you by sending you packs of goodies including items like balloons, information sheets and posters. If this sounds of interest to you, drop them an email at fundraising@cdhuk.org.uk
Throughout the year CDH organises a number of fundraisers that bring groups of people together to help raise awareness of the charity and the condition. Keep an eye on the news section on the CDH website so you don’t miss out.
Over the course of the day, we sold and ate a lot of cakes! I am really happy to announce that we managed to raise £133.50 for the CDH Awareness Day with our Bake4Babies event.
Thank you to all the team who helped baking the cakes and those that helped eat the cakes! I would also like to thank the local businesses who have supported us too.
